Below, you'll discover useful links for navigating the process of obtaining your License to Carry (LTC) through the Department of Public Safety (DPS), streamlining your concealed carry journey.
DISCLAIMER: Please be advised that this website does not offer legal counsel. We are not legal professionals. Given the dynamic nature of laws in Texas, it is imperative that you stay abreast of current regulations. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with the law.
So, picture this: You just aced your LTC course, Bam! Scored a 250- Double Bam! You're an officially certified LTC Rockstar. Now, you might be thinking, "I'm good, I can go conquer something else." But hold on there Charlie, let's put it in perspective.
Would you trust a surgeon who never touched a scalpel to operate on your kid? Or would you feel safe with an EMT who only read the first page of their manual and said "Ain't nobody got time for that!"
No Jaz- that would be absurd. But isn't that what you do when you strap on a gun with no training? Owning a firearm is a huge responsibility. Your negligence could take a life or put you in jail. It's not just about having the license; it's about honing your skills like a true protector.
Now, onto the license question. Why bother getting one if you can strut around with your holster tucked into your man bag or on full display? Well, having that shiny license isn't just for show. It's like having the rulebook of the gun game right in your pocket. If things ever hit the fan, being licensed can be your golden ticket out of a legal rodeo.
Sure, you can skip the whole licensing thing and just carry your gun around town. You can do what you want and the truth is we really don't care what you do- we're only talking to the people who want to stay out of jail right now. I'm a firm believer in not convincing people to do what the know they should be doing. Not spending time to develop your skills as a defender is a recipe for disaster.
Why do I need a license if open carry is allowed?
Having a License gives you a better understanding of the laws and puts you in a better legal standing should something go wrong.
Can I carry without a license?
Yep, you sure can. But it's not recommended- It's kind of like driving without insurance.
How come LTC doesn't teach me to shoot?
The state of Texas mandates the curriculum for LTC. That's why we offer our defensive pistol class to better equip you for real life encounters.
What caliber can I test with?
.22 is the minimum- but please, don't be a dirtbag. Test with the caliber you plan on carrying. Otherwise you could be setting yourself up for litigation.
Do I have to have my own firearm?
While it is not a requirement by the state- it is our company policy. We don't allow students to test without a firearm.
